The boys and I went to Dalseong Park today, it is a histrical site dating back as far as 261 b.c. We were told that there was a small zoo there and were pleasantly surprised to see there was also a museum. The boys were just thrilled to be getting out and going someplace different than the shopping center near the hotel. The humidity is quite high today but it was nice to get out. Braxton was also thrilled that there is a place where it doesn't just look like city everywhere. The boys wanted to try out the excercise machines that were in the park.
Cute bear begging for food after a man threw some in to him.
The boys with an eagle
We finally didn't have anything to do today, and the day started out rainy and so we thought we were going to be having to be staying in the hotel, but the weather quickly changed and we were able to get out. We found that there is a fun little fountain in the shopping center close by and so the boys have been dying to get in. We went to eat at a quiznos for lunch and then I let the boys have over an hour to play. The locals were amazed by the boys willingness to get wet. The local children just get their feet wet and today there was a little boy who told his mom he wanted to play for one minute and just as he said that he was getting just as wet as the USA kids, and his mom got after him. I guess we are just a little extreme. I have to say that they did stir up quite a crowd. In a few of the pictures you can see the local police station.
Well we are finally here in Korea. We have been here for seven days now and are getting used to the heat. It is so much more humid than I ever remember North Carolina being and don't want to be out in it for very long. We have been told that this will only last for about three more weeks. We are also getting used to the sleeping schedule. Today we actually woke up at 7 am compared to 3 am that we were experinceing the rest of the week. We have been so busy this week with getting in processed, and I mean WE. The boys have had to come along with both of us to the class and making sure that we have new id cards and ration cards. We are ready for our new apartment. We have found one we like but have to wait for it's approval. We are so ready to have our own space and to have a place for the boys to play. Hopefully we will be in an apartment in about 2-3 weeks, if not sooner. We are aslo trying to get used to city life. The boys are telling us that it is so much louder here than North Carolina. Isaiah says that it looks like New York. The boys have become very popular amongst the younger Koreans working in the shops they are always talked to and are asked questions about their ages and where they are from. We thought that the boys wouldn't be as interested in the TV here because it is mostly in Korean, but they watch it intently, and try to find the few words that they do know. Our new apartment in the distance. (We hope, just waiting for approval!)
Just excited that the boys were in bed by 6 pm. We had been up since 3 am and were ready for some much needed down time.
The boy's new school! Hey, we still know what this is!
We had to go under the street to cross to the other side where all of the shops were and discovered that there are tons of stores under the road. It is packed with people at night and usually opens about 10-11 am, so when we took the pictures it was before opening. Downtown Daegu at night! Very busy!!!
We went to Utah for a couple of weeks before we started our new adventure in Korea. Here are some of the highlights. We started off our trip by celebrating the 4th of July up at the Ogden Boat Club at Pineview Dam. The kids had a blast playing in the water, picnicing, being with cousins and of course the fireworks. A few days later we headed up the Dinosaur Park with more cousin and grandparent time. Then over the first weekend of our visit we went to my familie's favorite place "Boondocks" for some racing, lazer tag and video games. We ended our trip with a visit in the park with more cousin time. What a great time! We loved our visit with our family. It was much needed. We were able to meet a few nephew's for the first time and visit with some family members we havent seen in about three years. We will truely miss everyone. I stole some pictures from my sister and sister-in-law.
With my experience of being a mother of two little boys, I have found that they both love to stick things in their pockets; rocks, paperclips, anything found interesting that they think mom won't let them take home that they find on the ground. It now has become habit. Well, I didn't check the pockets of a pair of cream colored shorts that were put into the washing machine and then into the dryer. A green crayon ruined an entire load of whites. Everything looked a lot like this shirt. Yeah! Off to the store with two boys in tow. They got new church shirts and I got a few new shirts to wear. Wow! Life with boys is sure never a dull moment. It has been unusually hot here for this time of year and last week the boys invited a friend to come over to play in the sprinklers
Last night Braxton had a graduation ceremony for all the kids moving on to the 3rd grade because here they are going to a new school. Braxton was so proud to be graduating and got so many awards. He is a member of the Book Club (someone who reads at least 50 books during the year), Awesome academics, Roaring Reader, Safety Patrol, Reading Achievement, Academic All-Star for entire year. He also got a trophy for being the second grade's top reader this year with reading a total of 957 books(Here they count each chapter read as a book). We really like to read can you tell? Sometimes we have to tell him that he needs to stop reading. Imagine that. He is turning into a walking encyclopedia spouting off instant facts. It cracks us up! Isaiah was so impressed with the ceremony as you can tell in the picture. He made it through most classes, but Braxton's class was up last, so we had a while to wait. We are so proud of our little man. He is a great student and loves learning. Way to go Big Guy! Keep it up!
